Blower knob replacement sites/resources?

Post by corbijn »

I'm looking for a blower knob replacement for my 2005 Volvo V70 2.4 - manual climate control. My setup looks like the one in the attachment (only no seat heater buttons because...no heated seats:) I can't seem to find a replacement anywhere online. The knob covers the control button itself which is a light (circled in blue in the attached image). The light illuminates the fan image and line. No luck with the local dealer (not that I'd pay the over-price anyway). I'm thinking someone here might have a line on a site or resource.

Thanks to all for any help and for being part of this great site/forum.

There is no Volvo part number for that knob.

If the one you have is sticky with grime. Damp a rag with rubbing alcohol. Put the knob in the rag and let the alcohol soak the grime. For two minutes. Then start polishing the knob with the rag. The alcohol will clean off the grime you just got to work it. It will be like trying to work gum off something. Keep the rag damp but not soaking wet. Most of the time they clean up real well. Grime may make the knob look like the plastic is deteriorating, don't be fooled. The sticky stuff on knobs is body oil and dust. Same stuff that makes a steering wheel sticky.

If it is broken or missing get one out of a junk yard.

As above, or you can get one from a local junkyard. Does the button work correctly ?

Thanks Rick and Oragex. I'll try the rubbing alcohol process. The knob works correctly. It actually is a 'cap' that goes over another knob. At night the knob under the cap lights up (chunky clear knob). It looks kind of thin, but snaps onto the larger knob. Seems to work okay but is getting a bit weak/brittle.

Thanks again to both of you. At least I know there isn't a part number. I'll check the yards as well.

Volvo actually used some type of clear rubber over these knobs (soft touch) which looks terrible over time (see pic)

i bought a spare manual CCM like yours on ebay really cheap $20 usd for the button switch trim piece, for the knobs i used turpentine and alot of rubbing. To remove the knobs one pulled out easy with a pry tool the other was very stubborn and i ended up removing the facia to pry it free. DO NOT use a nylon brush on a power tool, it removed the grey layer and went down to the clear layer.
