00-04 s80 NA: 0-60?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

00-04 s80 NA: 0-60?

Post by CIK7 »

I want to save my money through 2021 and buy my mom an S80 for Christmas. Either a 2000-04 2.9 NA or a 2004 T6. I would like someone on here with PERSONAL experience to inform me what the 0-60 is for the 2.9 NA. I have a 96 960 with the 2.9 and an original 0-60 of 8.2sec (factory). With my mod I think it's an easy 7.7sec. One of those 0-60 websites claims the s80 2.9 is 8.8 but considering the hike in power and torque from the s90, gotta be faster. A Europe based website claimed 10sec and that's DEFINITELY unbelievable.

The above is listed in another website also (see link below). There are few specs out there but it's probably in the 8 secs time give or take. My 03 T6 is about as fast as the 08 C30 but they feel different during acceleration. Even my 03 Odyssey seems quick off the line, using both synthetic motor oil, transmission fluid, 93 Costco Octane and a large transmission cooler bypassing the radiator.

You will need to buy a 2004 S80 regardless. My 03 S80 is grounded for now.

I wanted someone with 2.9 na personal experience because I've already seen those sites with the t6 and 2.5t numbers. Yes I forgot about the airbag recall.

I don't know how fast it does 0-60 mph in, but it is more than adequate. I owned a 2004 2.9 na and it was a very nice car.

The only issue is the transmission when it gets up there in miles (I have seen some get 200k miles so it is fine on the S80 2.9 na (unlike the XC90). Other than the transmission for some, the engine is rock solid and robust plus easy to work on - having bought mine with a blown head gasket.

Service the PCV system, do the engine oil pan o-rings, water pump and timing belt and the engine is great. Suspension is typical Volvo.

Plenty of power and a stately cruiser.
