XC70 REM failure?

Post by volvoxc7012345 »

Hi everyone,

First post here, got a problem with my XC70 and would appreciate any help.

I had my 2004 XC70 parked for a couple of weeks during a severe cold snap (would warm it up every couple of days and take a drive around the block to clean of the rust of the brakes) but when I started to use it again I noticed that the back half of the car was essentially not working:
- fuel level not working
- awd not working
- rear door unlock/lock not working
- rear hatch unlock/lock not working
- rear spray not working
- rear wiper not working
Things that work:
- rear windows
- rear brake light on hatch
- rear brake lights on car body

I've done some reading and it looks to be an issue with either the relays on the REM or the REM itself. Is this correct or is the issue else where? The weather is warming up so I can start looking into the relays/module itself for corrosion if that is the correct path.

Thanks

I’ve had a biannual fuse corrosion problem in My REM on the 2005, which takes out various things in the bsck

Are you referring to "Fuse 1: Rear electrical module; Lighting cargo area 10A"?

Got your PM, sorry I didn’t follow up

My fuses develop corrosion in the REM every two years or so and I lose functions accordingly. I pull the fuses, scrape with pocket knife, and all is well

Tail lights usually go out, fuse 5

The power to the REM goes through two fuses 11/D1 and 11/D2 (top of left and right row). I would check both these fuses out carefully because there's so much missing functionality with the REM.

Happy to say that I fixed all of my problems (haven't tested AWD yet) and all that I did was remove all the fuses/relays and insert them back in. None of my fuses/relays had any corrosion so not sure what fixed it but I'm just happy everything works. I was able to crawl into the back via the driver rear door since my hatch was stuck closed as well.
