This year will mark eight(!) years since their introduction to the world -- August 2013 -- if not their actual installation in engine bays. I believe that came in 2014, in Euro XC90 gen 2 models, although some sources do say 2013.

I'm not trying to be rude with this, but I'd ask that you please not vote unless you've owned a Volvo with a Drive E engine, or at the very least, you're a Volvo fan and have "your ear to the ground" on all things Volvo.
If you had to click on that Wikipedia link to know what I'm talking about, please abstain from voting.
Please do vote if you've owned one or more!
My take, as a non-owner of a Drive-E Volvo, is that "no news is good news." I haven't heard anything about reliability problems.
Look for yourself in the XC90 gen 2 forum or the V90, S90, Cross Country forum. One post about a whistling noise on that first XC90 page...
There's just not much there.
I read hundreds of posts a week here and on FB Volvo groups, and I can't recall the last time I read about one of these I4 2.0's having troubles, despite the doubters airing their predictions of doom years ago.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't cautiously wary of turbocharging and supercharging (T6 and T8 trims) these little engines. But hey, here we are.
That said, I consider myself in the "ear to the ground" group, and I'm voting "Yes".
