Volvo 5-cyl in RWD applications

Post by matthew1 »

Swede Henrik Mattsson fits the wonderful Volvo 5-cylinder inline engine into RWD configurations. Of course he's not the first to do it, but I ran across these photos and couldn't resist posting here.

He made a P2 V70 into RWD, gutting everything. It's not a modification from FWD to RWD, it's a full rebuild, just keeping the shell of the car and maybe some other bits that don't get in the way of such a project.

Enjoy!

Wow-WEE! That's some serious re-working. I've seen white blocks stuffed into 122's, but it involves major remodeling of the firewall and tunnel.

It looks like there's plenty of room at the radiator to move it forward some, but maybe he's placing it where it is for weight distribution.

Yea it looks like he's pushed it as far back as possible. And why not? There's much less on that end than the other.

Reminds me of the BTCC 850 engine position, only longitudinal. Perhaps not as low down.

That fuel cell in the back is awesome.
