'01 V70 X/C Heater Core O-Ring Question 8693268

Post by benpineapple »

Hello!

My partner's '01 V70 X/C developed the coolant in DS floormat issue. I removed the trim and it's pretty clear the O-rings are leaky input/output lines. No sign of leakage originating from a lower point. I got the clips out easy enough, and the O-rings didn't look good. Hopefully replacing them fixes this slow leak.

Question: The rings I pulled out are square o-rings, but all of the replacement parts (OEM PN 8693268) are rounded o-rings. I double checked the parts diagrams from 2 sources, both have the same PN and show a rounded o-ring instead of the squared o-rings that were on the car. Have the squared o-rings been superceded by rounded o-rings?

Do I need Volvo o-rings, or can I get something that fits from my local hardware store? I was thinking I could get a few thickness options from the hardware to see what fits best, of course the matching inside diameter from the rings I pulled from the car. Not sure if it matters, or if the Volvo ones are made from a different and/or special material?

And lastly, should I use any kind of lubricant to easy the install, or should the new rings go on dry?

Thanks! Been a while since I've posted here. Nice to see some familiar usernames still on here. Cheers!

The round o-rings should be correct. When I replaced those seals they were hardened from age and heat and took the shape of square type seal. I recall they took more force than expected to insert so I think they compress quite a bit when installed. Lubricate with silicon grease or spray if you have it.

Can you measure the OD of and thickness of the oring and document here please?

Best. Way is to just lay the oring down on a scale with the max width on the graduations and take a picture

i noticed the shape difference also but as said it was because they were pressed square with age. i got the "0" rings from IPD i dont bother experimenting and used some silicon grease . make sure to push hard on the pipe and the clips should go back on easily.
