2007 V70 2.5t Transmission Fluid Level Topic is solved

Hi everyone,

I recently changed the transmission fluid on my 2007 V70 2.5t. I used the drain and fill method (three times). My vehicle has a little over 100k miles.

The fluid that came out was pretty brown and I believe that it is the original factory fill.
The fluid level was above the hot full line at room temperature, so it appears that it was overfilled from the factory.

I researched how much this Aisin tranny takes for a drain and fill and what I found was that it takes around 3.5L, which is around 3.7 quarts (let's round up to 3.75 quarts).

On the last drain and fill I put in a 10 oz bottle of Lubegard red and 3.5 quarts of Mobil 3309. This is around 3.8125 quarts.

1. Is the additional 0.1125 quarts enough to show a room temperature fluid level over the hot mark on the dipstick?

2. Will this additional amount cause any foaming or any negative performance in the long run?

3. Does your dipstick show a high fluid level as well?

I only check my transmission fluid after about an hour of running. I pull over to a perfectly flat spot with the engine running, and put it in park. Pull the stick out and clean it completely, and put it back in and pull it out to check the level. All while the engine is running.
Not fun or easy.

My crystal ball says your overfilled.

What's the capacity of a drain and fill?

All I can find online is that it's around 3.5 liters, which is 3.7 quarts.

3.8125 quarts is overfilled but by not that much. If looked overfilled when the original fluid was in it too.

Not sure if there's an official drain and fill quantity, but I use 3 and 1/3 Quarts as my amount. Then I check it like I mentioned above. Very little oil is needed to go from the low mark to the high mark.
All I know from many drain and fills is, 3.7 quarts and a bottle of Lubeguard is overfilled. Sorry I can't give a more accurate number than 3 and 1/3 quart.
I'm currently charging a spare security system battery using my HP 6114a precision power supply and checking the voltage with my HP 3455a digital voltmeter. The power supply is set at 13.806 volts and the 3455a is reading 13.80079 volts from the battery. Yes my inexpensive Craftsman vom would read 13.8 volts, but I like seeing all those digits.
My crude 3 and 1/3 amount will get you in a safe ballpark.

From what you're saying, it sounds like I should be half a quart too much. The Lubegard 10oz bottle is equal to 0.3125 quarts and I added 3.5 quarts of fluid. Total full for me is 3.8125 quarts.

It is important to measure what you remove and put back the same amount. Can just put the old in a bottle, mark the level, empty and refill with fresh, then pour in transmission . What fluid did you use ?

After doing 5 D & F’ in 3000 miles usually was between 3.25 to 3.5 qts.

SwedeSammy, there is little (or no?) benefit in figuring out what may or may not be in the transfer case. Just check the level and make sure it's correct, and then move on.

(1) Yes, the right amount for a drain and flush is right about 3.5 quarts.

(2) No matter what, always check the level on the dipstick at the end. If there's too much then take some out, and yes that can be a hassle to do. If there's not enough then add more.

I didn't capture the old fluid, I did this at an auto hobby place with a lift and the old fluid just dumped into their container.

I will definitely check it and try to take out the extra with a vacuum extractor.

I used Mobil 3309 fluid and Lubegard red.
