I had a shop replace my radiator a couple weeks ago, and got it back with a CEL and extremely rough idle.
- They "couldn't " read the code and suggested another shop .
- Other shop wouldn't work on older volvos, recommended to another shop, who's volvo mechanic moved.
so, I decided to jump in and see what's up.
Thanks to this community coming in handy in the past, I felt slightly confident
CEL was giving off A6, 1-5-4 which is in reference to the EGR flow.
Problem was, my set up doesn't look exactly like this:
download/file.php?id=15477&mode=view
On the diagram, it looks like there is only one hose to the ( B ) Idle air control valve - and the top is plugged.
On mine, I have 1 bright yellow tube, and two pale yellow tubes coming from the ( B ) Idle air control valve
The way the shop had set it up:
- the dark yellow hose was running from the EGR valve ( K ) to ( I ), the Variable intake solenoid
- and additionally, a pale hose was coming from Figure ( B ) ( B ) Idle air control valve to ( I ) Variable intake solenoid
- The other pale hose was going from ( I )Variable intake solenoid to figure ( A )( the egr controller )

My Hypothesis
- The shop disconnected it in order to do the radiator and did not connect it back correctly. ( hopefully )
- The dark yellow hose should go from K ( the egr valve ) to A ( the egr controller )
- The two pale yellow hoses should go from ( B ) Idle air control valve to ( I ) Variable intake solenoid
- Is my hypothesis extremely wrong?
- Would this cause an extremely rough idle systems and an egr flow excessive / leakage ?
- any damage I should look to mitigate if I drove like that for a week to these different shops?
thanks in adv for any help!
