Damage to exhaust port on the block-how@#%#! am I

Damage to exhaust port on the block-how@#%#! am I

So I done messed up. I fought with the manifold when I really just missed taking a bolt out. I damaged the exhaust port ...see pictures. Does this mean I have to take the block out to have it ground smooth? Could it be done in place? Can I use some sort of high temp gasket sealer to fill the depression assuming i smooth out the bent up bit?

Didn't see you posted this twice. Not sure you can fix this easily. It can't be ground down without removing the head, and even then I don't think there is enough material left to grind down.

If you remove the head you would have to have it welded and then machined flat.

Other option is a replacement head.

My only other suggestion would be to try some muffler cement. Clean the area where the damage is and put some cement carefully where the damage is. Try not to get is anywhere else and fit it back together. You may have to put a very thin skim on the whole gasket for that port but that is not ideal as it may affect that and other ports from seating correctly.

Last suggestion is to see if there is a high temp JB Weld and again clean the area and fill the damaged area and carefully sand it back flat.

Agree with the JB weld idea. I'd probably try that first before removing/ replacing the head. But in the back of my mind I'd be preparing myself for head removal.

The more I look at it, the more I think the JB will work. Good Luck !

I agree with JB Weld plan. Smooth with a fine file and reassemble. It could work for a long time.
