Bosch throttle body issues

Post by ziper1221 »

Hello,
I pulled the throttle body on my 2.5t v70 after it threw p2111 code, idled poorly, and went into limp mode. There was some throttle response but wouldn't rev up past like 2k. I pulled it out and cleaned it (job wasn't as bad as I thought) and reinstalled. When I started the car it was in limp mode, idled poorly, and had zero throttle response. It would also not respond to the calibration.

I then reached up to the unit and giggled the wires, the throttle took a calibration, and idled smoothly. I left it overnight but when I came back the next morning it was back to the bad idle/limp mode.

Does this sound like the problem is in the ETM, or in the harness, or in the connections? If it's in the connections can I solder leads to the internals directly?
Thanks

I had to replace my 2004 XC70's bosch throttle body this year. I kept getting weird idle surging, reduced engine performance, and TB fault codes in VIDA. I also considered the harness/connector. You can either buy the full harness that goes to the TB from the ETM, or you can just buy the connector end and five little wires to splice in. It's hard to say without a VIDA/DiCE what it is for sure, but I wouldn't rule out the TB completely. Removing the ETM is a bit of a pain I've heard but might be worth it to do continuity testing in the cable.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

ECM-925C ( P2111 ) Electronic throttle unit. Signal too high.

Condition
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the engine control module (ECM) registers that the movement of the throttle is impeded, or that the return spring in the throttle unit is not functioning correctly, when attempting to adapt the electronic throttle unit.

Substitute value
Depending on the fault, the engine control module (ECM) can cut off the supply to the damper motor in the electronic throttle unit. The throttle will then attempt to set itself to the return position.

Possible source
  • The throttle is sticking or is blocked (e.g. oil film, dust)
Contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals between the engine control module (ECM) and the electronic throttle unit
Open-circuit, short-circuit to ground or short-circuit to supply voltage in the wiring for the damper motor in the throttle unit
Short-circuit to each other in the wiring for the damper motor in the electronic throttle unit

    Damaged throttle unit.
Fault symptoms
Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
Poor performance.
