2000 V40 Motor Mount problem

Post by toots »

Yesterday I had my mechanic perform the 105,000 service on my 2000 V40. This included replacing the timing belt. When I picked the car up last night, the manager told me that when they removed the motor mount during the service, they discovered one of the three bolts holding the motor mount in was stripped. They put the motor mount back on my car with only two bolts holding it on. The manager said this isn't a serious problem but I should have the motor mount fixed so all three bolts will fit when I bring it in for service the next time.

How important is having 3 bolts on the motor mount? I am driving around with only two bolts attached, which worries me.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

Which mount is it?

I am a firm believer in "Volvo put three in, it must need three."

I am surprised that the shop did not contact you to see if you wanted the part replaced whilst they were busy.

No doubt two will hold for quite some time as there is an element of redundancy in fitting three bolts.
