'04 V70 - Oddities in the VIN

Post by Faust »

I just "decoded" the VIN on my '04 V70, FWD, Non-turbo. For an engine code, I get B5244S6 R5 2.4L. I understand this to be a turbo engine, which I have not. For a transmission code, I get AW42AWD / 4T65-AWD. Googling this, I get the AWD transmission for an XC90. Am I misreading something?

Hmmm...

I beIieve it would depend on the 'decoding' algorithm you are using.

Have you asked the Swedish Wizard's for a second opinion?
(VIDA that is)

Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

B5244S6
B = Bensin ( Swedish for Petrol )
5 = Number of cylinders
24 = Approximate displacement in deciliters, may be rounded up or down. 24 dL = 2.4L.
4 = Valves per cylinder. ( 5 X 4 = 20 valves )
S = Induction method ( S = standard (Naturally Aspirated), T = Turbocharged ).
6 = Engine generation or engine variant. 6th generation would be the 5th revision. That is why a engine code never ends with a 1.

B5244S6 is the Super ultra-low emissions vehicle ( SULEV ) variant for California.
