Shopping for plugs for my 2001 V70 T5, and came across this, maybe the latest hoodoo
NGK® 95159 - HX™ Ruthenium Spark Plug
And NGK Iridium BKR6EIX
and three different numbered Volvo OEM plug packs
To may to / To Mah to?
and a return of the spark plug wars

If you are running your car the “ normal” 12000 miles per year, s set of Bosch copper single electrodes cost about $15, you can regap them in year one when you check your compression, the FreeCP them in year two at 25-30k service interval.
I don’t like leaving plugs in an aluminum head for more than three years without moving them.

Original 2001 V70 T5 owner here. I've run nothing but OEM Volvo plugs (PN 8692071) for the T5 since 2001. Change at Volvo recommended interval...30k miles. Never had a failure or plug seized in a cylinder.
Tried Denso or NGK plugs once...just didn't run right. Learned my lesson.
Why change something that works?

Mostly because it has been over 20 years since our model came out and I am sure there have been improvements in Spark plugs since then. And there are still differences in opinion as to which is better, NGK or Bosch (vs OEM). I have OEM in r car now and they look more like NGK construction. They didn't even have Iridium plugs back then, much less Ruthenium, multi prong, V gap, etc.

+1 on the copper or Volvo OE. My experience on the 98 S70 T5 and plugs on other cars. Similar to topic on BTOG which is a hit and miss but can't go wrong with the original. Just make sure any other plugs you attempt to use has the correct heat range. I put these in an 03 GS300. Perhaps 80K miles and still running strong. I do use premium in all my car

and if copper doesn't work, it's not like a huge expense.. Back in my 240T days, copper Bosch worked great.

Meanwhile, over on the Alfa Romeo forum, they're debating the value of old skool "Golden Lodge" plugs, which haven't been produced for over 15 years but were the traditional Italian-made OEM plugs in Alfas. They had four electrodes around the ring. People are paying stupid money for these "original" plugs, even used ones, in spite of the fact they're nearly invisible once installed.
There was also some talk over the years of rust getting in and splitting the insulator and ruining them, and maybe your engine. Most now agree - what's wrong with new NGKs?

Nothing really. Or Bosch Plats / coppers. Or even Champions copper. Even Denso TT. or Volvo label for that matter. I was wondering mostly if any of these "new" innovations in the last 10 years, like that NGK® 95159 - HX Ruthenium Spark Plug, was anything better than the 21 year old recommendation for my T5

I learned that in 1960, Golden Lodge plugs were the ticket. But now they're old tech and Iridium NGKs work great in an old Alfa. And you're not paying $100 for New Old Stock antique plugs.

A tip (no pun intended) for the Alfa Forum. 80K or so or was it 100K on an 03 GS300. Time flies and so does the mind.
