Like mentioned it’s a great condition ‘04 V70 2.5T AWD 132,XXX

Went to change a few hoses and take turbo out to change coolant seals/gaskets and found this:

I showed the condition of the turbo leak so you are seeing what I am. The slurry between the charge pipe and intercooler is all grease no metallic anything. Obviously you would think I am eating oil but NOPE!!
This hose is original and permeated horribly. These pic’s of slurry are shocking because this does not represent the condition of the engine/car….in no way would think it came from my engine!!!

I did not take turbo out because wanted to do research, if it’s failing soon and needs XYZ then I didn’t want to remove it twice. I did the glove test and there was negative pressure at idle(was rushed so didn’t bump throttle). Was planning on full PCV service in spring but can do now if needed.

I am the second owner, first owner was major car guy and this was his baby. I have exacting notes down to every wiper change.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.:-)

Not too bad, they're messy so..

Wipe it out , continue to use quality synthetic oil at proper intervals.
If you visit a salvage yard snag a decent pipe coupler for future use.

I replaced with new and I only use Schaeffer synthetic, I try for only the best(most of the time:-)

No codes on VIDA so I guess I’m just going to clean it all off and see where it leaks from and do the coolant gaskets next break in the weather.

So is it basically impossible for the turbo to come out/back-in (while staying in its entirety), over the top of the engine?

I realize VIDA explains to remove from the bottom via angle gear removal but I was hoping to go over engine 😬.

You only need remove the alum half.
The cast iron section remains bolted to the exh manifold. All internal parts come out with the alum half and are held in place by a large C clip.
Both turbo halves are held together by a collar, only one nut/bolt.
Coolant and oil lines are banjo bolts , I used socket and low profile ratchet from Harbour. Some from the top and some from underneath. Use ramps if you have some.
Leave the oil drain connected and draw it out with the turbo, take careful note of the way you have to twist the turbo as the drain comes out. It will have to follow the same geometry going back. It helps to have a second person underneath to guide the drain into its hole.

I removed the collar first to gain a bit of wriggle room, before removing turbo make witness marks on both halves. There's supposed to be a locating pin but mine had none.
Reconnect all plumbing with new copper washers, then clamp the collar up to tighten both halves of the turbo
Into one unit.

Shop time is 6 hours, it only took me 8 days. I showed them.

My turbo looked similar to that, but never dripped on the splash pan. Last year I wiped the turbo off with carb cleaner and one oil change later, it stayed oil free.
