I have a "Driver Door Open" warning on my 2000, 2.4l S80. As the system believes the door is open, the interior footwell lights stay on, the central locking cannot be operated and the trunk cannot be locked (as the only means of locking it is electronically - the key can only be used to unlock the trunk).
Is there a relay, sensor or switch which controls the warning signal, or do I have to replace the entire lock unit? My Volvo dealer suggests that the lock unit would probably require replacement - I doubt very much that a Volvo lock unit would be a cheap item, not to mention the hassle of dismantling the door and window mechanism to replace it. Does anyone have any information or advice?

Driver Door Open warning - unable to lock trunk - 2000 S80.
I'm not an expert with Volvo's, but as an experienced mechanic, I'll just spew some basic troubleshooting advice to you.
First, I beleive that the door switch is located inside the door. I would pull the trim off the door and check that before going anywhere else. If the computer thinks the door is open, the indication is provided to the computer by a simple switch.
Second, try resetting the codes to see if the door open indicator clears. Might be as simple as that? I've read in another post that you should reset codes with the door closed...maybe this is the reason?
Good luck.
