On the 960 (straight 6 built off of the straight 5), the common ticking is from a faulty oil pick up tube. Thats what I was told by plenty of people. So your i5 being a 93 could have a faulty oil pick up tube or bad oil pan O-rings as scot850 mentioned.

I reinstated the insurance on my red v70. Then I spent about 2 hours working on it. I hooked up a 2nd horn (factory) to the wolo low tone. Sounds better. Added aftermarket horn wiring. Works great. Louder than factory wiring. Using 2 Wolo 310-2T low tones

Today I replaced the center cup holder courtesy of the parts car, filled ac 75% full including a small dose of dye, and I got most of the sunroof repasted with rtv (not a stationary type fix).
