Re: 2006 XC70 Evap pump replacement process

This is a good writeup, but unfortunately the V70 (not XC) is quite a bit different. I have an '05 2.5T. Up through removing the top exhaust shield with the three rivets and two nuts is identical. But the three torx screws that mount the pump are not visible or accessible. There appears to be a long...

Re: 2006 XC70 Evap pump replacement process

Could you cut an access hole from above using a dremel? I saw that in a j-hose replacement thread one time and thought it was a brilliant idea. I assume you are responding to my comment on this old thread. The same thought occurred to me, or the fantasy of access from above. I have additional infor...

850, 1998 S70 Alternator R & R

I wasted a lot of time removing the alternator in my 1998 S70, so I am posting some tips here. I believe this applies at least to late 850 models also, but not 1999- S70s or P2. I found no forum or video that explains it sufficiently well. There are a few ways to proceed, but after wrastling with th...

Re: Oil leak behind timing cover - 2007 XC70 170k miles

I can't tell from the pictures what is causing it. What I do recognize is your TB cover looks like mine did when my CVVT failed. One of them failed, and my Indy mechanic suggested changing both, which we did. I took the car to my Indy, and he did the diagnosis by eye that it was the CVVT. Good luck.

Re: Oil odor in car when idling, oil found at bottom of intake pipe to throttle body (RIP)

Thank you for the replies. I believe I solved the issue as a target of opportunity, while doing my timing belt R&R. I apologize again for not monitoring this post in a timely manner. I was buying a car to replace my daily driver, and doing the timing belt service. The #1 spark plug was only fing...

One more timing belt "how to" post - itemized steps and tips

I spent some time reviewing videos and forums, to find out how to replace the timing belt on my 1998 S70T. Mine has the same tensioner/pulley as the 850s did - this how-to is not for the late '98 through 2000 cars. One of the things I learned is, water pump and tensioner are suggested to replace eve...

Re: '14 XC70 seat back loose - WHIPS - looking for info on R&R procedure

Glad I could help a little. At the end of the day the part is designed to fail at a certain force. The seatback literally lies flat in the triggered state. I would (wildly) guess that the part on the loose side has worked its way into this failure posture (no pun intended). I got a more reasonable ...

Re: '14 XC70 seat back loose - WHIPS - looking for info on R&R procedure

I took the seat out today, to see if the job looks doable as well as see if I could find damage or confirm a loose joint. It isnt obvious how the mechanism works, but I was able to get about halfway through the R&R procedure before satisfying myself of both objectives. I found looseness at what ...

Re: '14 XC70 seat back loose - WHIPS - looking for info on R&R procedure

I’ve got this exact same issue. Any follow up info would be great. Thanks! I should have come back and posted an update. There were a few unknowns that caused me to ask the dealer to install the replacement parts. There is a spring with a lot of tension that I was not certain I could disengage/re-e...
