Re: Oil consumption
While I've been a fan of Mobil 0W-40 for many years in other cars, I had the same problem once I switched my 96R to 0W-40. On the 94T5, it would leak oil through all possible seals, even with a freshly cleaned PVC. Switching back to 5W or 10W solved the problem. In my 96R, I'm running 5W-50 at the m...

Re: Front struts "squeaking" while driving on rough road on 1997 850 T5
How to check the spring seats (i.e. the "rubber bushings" at the top): With the car on the ground, put a wrench (22 mm I think?) or large pliers on that large, shiny top nut of the strut. The one win the center, not the three small ones. Can you rotate the nut, or do you meet resistance an...

Re: 850 steering rack teardown and rebuild
OK, now that I have a moment. When I left off, I was getting the teflon seals on the pinion drum and the rack piston seal. I wound up with a few wraps of electrical tape and some hose clamps on there and let them sit for a couple days (I was busy anyway, so it didn't bother me any to wait). After th...

Re: A $100 '99 V70 GLT
Love this. I just saved a $600 V70XC from the crusher a couple months ago and I love saying I bought it for $600. Jealous that you can say the same for $100! I have been feeling grateful that parts are so cheap for these cars right now, at least from rockauto. Also, probably an unpopular opinion but...

Re: Separating front seat back from seat base
Is it a powered seat or manual? Powered is a bit tricky, never worked on a manual seat.
It is easy enough to swap a seat skin over. Just need either zip-ties or a hog ring tool and rings. Could probably swap a base cover over in about 30 minutes or less.
Neil.

Re: Separating front seat back from seat base
+1 on what Neil says.
The back is a little more troublesome to swap, but the lower skin is not a big deal.
I tried taking parts off a manual seat (the spring loaded shocks that helps adjust the seat height) and had to give up. They are a nightmare to take apart and worse to put back together.

Re: A $100 '99 V70 GLT
Very nice. I do like the color. It's similar (the same maybe) as my 850. I'm a little surprised you didn't look for a whole engine to swap in.
I can't imagine how a guy would lose a head, but some people are "amazing".

In this case the head job is already half done, and the PO has done the nasty part!
You can use Permatex for the cam cover at 1/5 the price of the Volvo brand.
