V70 S70 Squeaky Dash - Another DIY

I bought a 1998 V70 in which the left side of the dash was maddeningly squeaky. Just a touch would stop the racket, but it's tough driving with your left arm while your right arm is poking through the steering wheel. The right side of the dash is rock solid. I read several posts about repairing the ...

Re: I’m bad at screw clamps. Anybody use Oetiker clamps?

I started using Oetinger clamps about two years ago and have fallen in love all over again, they did solve the PS pump hose seep on my 1999. I still haven't sourced big ones like radiator hoses and turbo induction yet. Hmmm..a zip tie gun sounds like a nice birthday present for me. Best use for Oeti...

Re: Remote programing

Yep, for a 98 it must go to the dealer or to a shop that has purchased dealer software.

Re: VIDA scanner

You need a reset tool for a 98 for the Service light. There used to be cheap tools out there that could do that and the Airbag light on the 98's but I am not sure if the icarsoft will work on a 98. Vida only works on 99- P80 car electronics and software. The Vol-Fcr and a VW connector cable to your ...

Re: VIDA scanner

If you have an Android device, you can use xiaotec "850 OBD-II" Android app (available on Google Play) for ~$2 + ELM327-compatible Bluetooth tool . Some ELM327-compatible Bluetooth tools I've used successfully with "850 OBD-II" app: - ScanTool.net OBDLink LX BT [recommended] - Sc...

Re: VIDA scanner

You said you wanted to reset the SERVICE light. You already have an OBDII bluetooth. For $2 it seems like you would be willing to install "850 OBD-II" app, then test if your existing OBDII bluetooth tool will work with "850 OBD-II" app to reset the SERVICE light. If it does, then...

Re: Timing belt question

I don't think you have any worries. If it was sold as a " kit " then I would think the tensioner was included. And 8k over 4 years is all good.
However normally the water pump is replaced along with the belt, but I think that's just because it's right there.

Re: Timing belt question

Since your car have mechanical tensioner then yes, likely it was changed. If hydraulic I wouldn't assume.

Water pump is usually good to at least 200k, better to leave the old factory one in there than put in a crappy aftermarket one.

Re: Interior dome light

They should turn off immediatelly after the car is locked.
Otherwise...they turns off after a minute or so.
There should be three positions of the switch...always off,on/off with doors opened or closed and always on.
Check if switch is in proper position.
