Re: Tow a Volvo long distance (100 miles)

Plenty of friendly folks in North Jersey lent a hand, but your mileage may vary. Hi again, Wow, that's a beautiful car. Love the color. Oh i thought you were stuck in Manville. I guess you got it home now? That's great! Car was from Manville, made it to Far Hills, I guess I really know how to pick ...

Re: Late 1998 V70XC driveshaft removal

Getting the joint apart wasn't easy. I don't see how you could do it without being destructive. There is a snap ring behind the backing plate of the assembly that retains the joint on the shaft. The backing plate is thin metal, I was able to wedge a small pick and a screwdriver through the bolt hole...

Re: Late 1998 V70XC driveshaft removal

Well, the problen turned out to be much simpler than tearing my driveshaft out. My aftermarket firewall upper torque mount was too short, causing the bolt to not line up correctly between the torque arm and the forward bushing. Whenever the engine would shift, like changing gear, or my foot going on...

Re: 1999 s70 NA fuel trim problem Evita

We had this same code but on a 98, it turns out the O2 sensor wires were unplugged just enough that it didn't throw codes, but must have been throwing the voltage readings off. Pressing on the connectors clipped them into place, and voltage values read through Torque seemed to go back to normal. Pro...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

Couple of washers on each side of those holes , lots of antiseize to prevent rust. The center bearing is really low stress. It feels very little torque Ok good, I was thinking that center bearing would be seeing more stress. On the topic of stuck axles in hubs, the harbor freight 10 ton hydraulic p...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

https://youtu.be/Rk9TVM50iA4?si=JM2eXx0el5vbz65k Broke the ball joint pinch bolt driving on our glorious New York roads. Recently did an axle swap and took the whole knuckle out to press the old axle out, but the car has been driven on a 600 mile round trip since then, and it chose to break down 20 ...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

Yeah I reused the bolt, this was a good wake-up call to stop cheaping out, especially since we're already saving money doing work ourselves. Thankfully it was at pretty low speeds and something just caught the wheel wrong, it seems everything is ok, I have the bolt and nut on order. This is my siste...

Re: '96 850 corrosion check

It's hard to tell if you already have the plastic rocker covers off, but I recently found some nasty surprises behind those nice plastic covers. You can get a little bit of an idea by putting your head under the car, and looking at the back side of the pinch weld. If it looks like some brown is peek...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

What did you use? The high temp chaulk I used did not dry all the way through so wasn't hard. I inserted some thick radiator hoses and filled with the high temp chaulk. Winded up oozing a little. Though the hot glue was sufficiently hard it couldn't with stand the engine heat. Imagine if the glue s...

Re: Radiator drain plug difference

I couldn't find anything for NAPA radiator drain plugs, I don't know why they'd make it so close to the correct Volvo plug but not the same size.
Anyways I found the size was an M12 with a 1.75 thread pitch, plastic bolts are available online or from supply companies like McMaster Carr.
