autozone might have a loaner fuel pressure guage to try.
But it probably needs testing under load, got vida?

The pump might be losing its prime. It should be submerged to get proper cooling from the gas.

maybe try testing fuel pressure at the tank outlet.
Need some hose and clamps to rig it but it will show where the problem is.

I think you just rolled the seal, it helps to lubricate it during install.
Can also leak if the locking ring isn't tight, I tapped mine home with a piece of wood and hammer.

jonesg, Thank you for the suggestion, but I think we're past that point. With the engine running I can open the reservoir and see and smell exhaust. The engine might be a lost cause. That says head gasket to me, nothing more. Some people scrap the car but its very fixable even for us home gamers.
