Are you really shure that it is the brake booster leaking. A very common fault is that the fastening for the vacuum hose in the brake booster is leaking. This is just a conical rubber plug sticked into the booster caliper. Remove it, put on som Permatex or equal and hopefully the booster will not le...

This is how I change the trans fluid in my volvos. * Obtain either IPD's transmission flush hose or a clear vinyl or plastic tube (3/8 inch I.D.) about eight feet long, three or four gallon milk jugs calibrated with a permanent marker in quarts, and a transmission fill funnel with a long, thin neck....

I got the picture, now. Your brake pedal started going closer to the floor and now goes right to the floor without any braking action. Plus, there are no external hydraulic leaks and the master cylinder is full of fluid. This tells me that you have an "internal" fluid leak. This occurs whe...

Re: Rear Transmission Seal Replacement

As long as your car has an AW-7(0/1) transmission I think that these instructions would work: http://volvoadventures.com/howtodotransmissionseal.html Do you have a link to the ones on this site?

Thanks

Re: Master cylinder replacement

I have to disagree with Bill about the wheels here. Coming from someone who had to bleed his brakes for MONTHS because of inexperience, as well as from someone who has a pretty thin build, taking the wheels off creates more work than slipping in behind and wrapping your arm around them, especially i...

Re: 1990 240 DL "Brake Failure" Light and Excessive Pedal Tr

I replaced the master cylinder because the pedal would just drop if held but would be firm if pumped firmly. The light has gone off, and after bleeding braking power has been restored. Replacing the master cylinder is very, very easy. Remove the fluid from the reservoir (I used a Mityvac hand vacuum...

Re: 1990 240 DL "Brake Failure" Light and Excessive Pedal Tr

The brake failure light came on in my 89 240DL recently. It turned out to be the brake junction box. I had it replaced, the light went out and have had no problems since.

Re: 1989 240 DL Power window don't work with new relay

Thanks so much for that input, but the mystery is solved. I remembered seeing a comment from someone on a different thread about the ground at the switches. I jumpered between the ground contact on the switch and metal on the door and, just like magic, the windows worked. I used a splice connector t...

Re: 1996 960 Brake Shift Lockout

Found the problem from one of Robert’s videos...interlock switch on the steering column has a weak spring. When key is turned to turn car on it doesn’t return all the way back to where it should be...just have to move the key back a hair and all works fine. The part is about $50 and from the video s...

1989 Volvo 240 PCV with EGR- a Few Tips

Well, I finally bit the bullet and serviced my PCV system and as expected, it was a PITA! I have a few tips for those attempting to do so and for those who have the EGR installed in front of the oil vapor separator box (horrible). I did not pull intake but did remove idle air control valve and brack...
