Re: 98 S70 fan coming on more than normal
Based on your description, it seems like your cooling system is working as intended, but the fan might be turning on more frequently than necessary. This could be due to a few potential factors (my personal opinion): [link removed, user deleted] Dirty Radiator/Intercooler/Condenser: Over time, thes...

Re: Brake caliper failures and how to prevent them
If you watch or subscribe to Napa feed, you can buy those recommended NAPA calipers at 20% off list on events occurring every 3-4 months, often centered on holidays They are running about $90 with core at NAPA right now, the fitment chart isn’t perfect, make sure you get single sliding pistons for A...

Re: Brake caliper failures and how to prevent them
. I've only replaced and honed a couple of rear brake shoe cylinders back in the day. I think the two times I've had a sticking caliper seen from uneven pad wear I just bled the system. Start by pushing the brake pedal when the caliper has been removed but with the line intact. This will extend the ...

Re: spark plugs for 95 850 N/A
For an 850 N/A I prefer the 3-prong ones. You don't need to adjust the gap. They last about 40k miles which is great on an old car: when random issues pop up, you can know the plugs are not likely the cause. e.g. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-spark-plug-set-beru-00023401175kt Single-prong p...

Re: 98 V70 base shock and strut refresh questions!
Many thanks for the encouragement! There are others MVS members out there doing the same thing and MVS members having been helping others out for years with parts. I am fortunate to be able to do this while my health holds out (hopefully for a good few years yet!) now I am retired. I have the 02 XC7...

Re: Rebuilding and painting my calipers
Not for a Volvo but I've refurbed brake calipers. Electrolysis is what I use to get the rust off. It takes mostly time to let it work.

Re: 96 850 - best current sources for reman steering racks and radiators??
Hey ya’ll - well it’s been about 2 1/2 years since I had someone put in a reman-Ed TRW rack and bang, got a slow leak again. Should I try the Lucas stuff or the Valvoline additive as a stopgap? Or both at the same time? ... I've tried it once many years ago with success, not recently, but yes, many...

Re: 1999 V70XC - Connecting Rod Bolt Reuse?
Just want to report that 2 years later, the V70XC is running well...The engine at least...I have a separate transmission problem now. After doing a head job, oil sump drop, and re-ring job at the same time, the engine no longer drinks coolant and oil. No more hard starts in the morning or after the ...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
I hooked my little Noco genius 1 battery charger up to the Volvo 850's starter battery, just to keep it happy in this cold snap. I have two of the Noco Genius 1 chargers. I think they're fantastic little things. I really need to get outside, put them on my vehicles, as that's what I bought them for...
