Re: 2011 XC-70 Strut replacement & persistent noise
A helpful person on the Swedishbricks site sent me the Volvo document that explains the required alignment when replacing the struts on a P3 Volvo:
I removed the strut, did the required alignment , reinstalled and the tapping noise was gone !

Re: Shark Fin Antenna Removal
Old post, but my new problem. . Braided fishing line tied around a couple of pencils makes a fine garrot for cutting the seal. Pulling and sawing gently got it done. You really don't have to pull very hard. I'm mounting a backup cam in the unused satellite radio antenna spot

Comparison of vacuum oil change vs conventional method.
2016 xc70 T5(5cyl). Despite wonderful recommendations from Volvo to change oil every 10k I prefer to change it every 5k(or once a year whichever happens first). Since on this car you dont have to drop the splash guard to change oil filter, I decided to compare vacuum oil change method (from Harbor F...

Re: Spark Plug Removal - 2002 - V70
I have taken up to 40 mins to get one plug out that was like this using this method. Patience (I was born with a shortage of it! ) is the key here and not forcing it. Some modern plugs claim to have an anti-seize in the threads to prevent this, but with plug life become so long in some case,...

Re: 2011 XC-70 Strut replacement & persistent noise
Strut bearing would be my bet. Great photo on alignment procedure. Fcp euro has a detailed video on similar job but on xc60 in case you need reference. Sorry for your time. Hope it will reward you with another 190k of noise free miles. P.S. extra respect for a nice coat of fluid film Hey , thanks f...

Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?
About June 5 I had a no start condition that final started after giving some throttle. This was on my 2001 V70 T5 with 218,700 miles. I got it home about 4 miles in what must have been limp mode. Poor throttle response. Surging idle. RPM limited to 2000 RPM. I shifted manually to get up to 45 MPH. I...

Re: Air cleaner boxes '04 V70, 2.4 N/A
I'm wondering if this could be an import possibly from a dusty climate country as I can't find that filter listed.
Unless someone has different info to this, I'd just delete it. It is either that or ask Volvo for help. Can you see a part number on it anywhere?
Neil.

Re: Air cleaner boxes '04 V70, 2.4 N/A
George,
I can see sunlight through it. The camera didn't pick it up well. The element is sandwiched between two case halves that snap together.

Re: Air cleaner boxes '04 V70, 2.4 N/A
That is an activated carbon filter for catching hydrocarbons from the intake manifold trying to escape and cause an evaporative emissions test failure on PZEV certified Volvos. It helped the entire vehicle pass the very strict PZEV SHED emissions testing. The last squirts of fuel from the fuel injec...

Thank you David. Mystery solved. That filter being an emissions related item never crossed my mind.
