Volvo 850 broken hood cable solution
Two nightmare scenarios that I've thought about when traveling in the 850 are sunroof glass stuck open, you're in a remote area and there's a rain forecast. And your hood cable breaks (hopefully not at the same time that your sunroof is stuck open). But, hey, sh*t does happen. I've seen a few 850's ...

Re: $10,000 S80 Challenge
All, It's been 6 months since my last oil change. I decided to use a different oil, I was using Mobil 1 0W40 and I did have to add a quart during the 6 months of usage. I decided to try Motul X-clean 5W40 (and a new filter) And because I was going to be under the car I decided to replace 4 quarts of...

Re: Volvo Findings! (What have you found on Craigslist?)
I completely agree with all your points, (except color) . I'd just like to have a 6-speed auto VR, to see if all the talk is true about them being almost equivalent to the M66 performance wise. No, I would never pay what the seller is asking. But someone will, that's all I was saying. Sometimes it's...

P2 passenger footwell leak solution with photos
The problem: Occasionally I would find the floor mat wet on the passenger front footwell of 2001 V70. Initially I checked the carpet under the rubber mat and found the carpet felt dry. I made the wrong assumption that the rubber mat was catching the drip as it fell from somewhere under the dash. Lat...

Re: Possibly headed to look at 2006 XC70 - couple of questions
- Too bad you don't DIY, otherwise it is expensive to go to mechanic. - I understand you are "oldandbroke" but if you want to avoid trouble, then: 1. Get a P2 Volvo with < 100K miles, they are around, you just have to be patient. 2. The 5-cyl engine is bullet-proof, except for the timing b...

Re: Possibly headed to look at 2006 XC70 - couple of questions
I'd bet ANY P2 for sale with 130K has not had it's timing hardware replaced. Why do you single out the tensioner? There's an idler pulley and the belt itself. The water pump is said to last 2 timing belts. If you get this car do the t-belt/idler and tensioner and leave the water pump IF it exhibits ...

Re: Possibly headed to look at 2006 XC70 - couple of questions
For the tb tensioner, the INA ones actually have the manufacturing date stamped behind the small temperature needle. Of course, the tensioner needs to be removed from the car to see the date, but this is not that hard - if you can find a bud to keep the tension on the belt near the tensioner while y...
