Re: 2003 XC70 - Low Compression after head rebuild

Correction (to my preceding post), I did have as much play as the guy in the video after cleaning the splines on the gear and the shaft. However, the innermost quarter inch of the shaft is not splined, so the corresponding splines on the gear were in much better shape. When I pulled the gear out a b...

Re: What adhesive - sunroof support bars

I have found when dealing with glass it is not the glue so much as the surface prep. You need to apply hydrochloric acid to the glass (tape off carefully). This will fog the glass and allow the epoxy or glass glues to bond.

Re: first time fixing outer cv boot

Progress! The oppressive rains finally paused long enough for me to get the driveshaft off. VIDA's procedure was to disconnect the lower strut bolts, but that means carefully measuring strut position and/or messing up camber, so I just undid the ball joint at the bottom and used a big ratchet strap ...

Re: Lower control arm and CV boot, should I bother?

FCP sells GKN axles - this is what Volvo put in our cars. GKN is half of the Volvo price, yet still durable. I bought one axle from Volvo ($600) when GKN was not yet available, the other side was replaced year later with GKN. Few years, 20+k miles/year, including dirt and gravel roads, both axles st...

Re: 02 XC70 Alarm Siren/UEM Woes

mark99tj wrote: 13 Aug 2019, 09:23 From researching on other forums there does seem to be some sort of electrical interaction between the siren and the sunroof.
They are both on the same CAN Bus. If one or the other pulls down the CAN Bus. The UEM loses communication with both.

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

I used the filler cap. I ported a tube through the filler cap used with the volvo style funnel and cap combo as it conveniently has a hole already in it. I took readings initially from both the filler cap and dip stick tube and they were both the same.

My 2005 Volvo XC70 2.5T

First thread here.. Nice forum. This is my first Volvo, and i am living in Norway. Working as a mechanic, 26 yrs old. Bought this car in August 2019, and got it pretty cheap because it was leaking coolant all over the floormats. So first thing i did was to replace the heat exchanger (hell of a job, ...

Re: 2004 xc70 jerk shifting into reverse, with new valve body

I had a shudder after adding additive that increases friction. Cured (almost) by adding Lubegard HFM. I would add 1 oz of HFM and drive a couple of days before deciding if it needs another oz. The trick is you have to stop when it shifts almost perfectly: the next oz may start glazing the plates, so...
