Re: Coronavirus Thread

I am surprised at the COVID-19 ignorance I saw while out yesterday. I bought fuel at a large fuel station (Buc-Ees) and had sight of a lot of pumps and I saw no one using protection at pump. I got out with my denatured alcohol in pump spray and sprayeded anything I would touch on the pump. I went in...

Re: Transmisson/shift/issues

DO you have a scan tool that lets you check the Transmission Control Module (TCM)? The gear position sensor needs to be checked.

Re: All instruments gone, then back

On that car there is no network for operational communication so ABS module could only kill speedometer. The oil service light coming on later would indicate the cluster powered up at that delayed time. Ignition switch, cluster connections, or internal fault like a broken solder point are on the lik...

Re: WANT: S80 V8

Using cargurus I found one that looks nice in Iowa. 2010 with adaptive cruise and the photo shows perforated leather so it seems it may have the full on climate package. Wood steering wheel and wood on door cards. $5500 and not too far over 130K miles. The lowest mile one is in Puyallup WA with 98K ...

Re: Replace lifters solid to hydraulic

Hydraulic tappets are taller, as I recall, nominally 17.5 mm. Solid ones are sized in increments from 14.80mm to 16.40mm or thereabouts. If a machine shop does a head with solid bucket tappets they usually grind the stem tops to achieve the desired clearance after the valve seat grinding and angle d...

Re: new brake rotor

The pad contact on older platforms not across the face to the edge. There is 2-3 mm of non contact area. On models where this is true the metal can be removed on full edge as with yours. On the models where the contact is within a narrow margin of edge due to not having the extra weight the margin i...

Re: Intercooler weep hole

Intercoolers can collect water condensed from the compression of turbo and the pressure drop from cooling. For a time many manufacturers dealt with it by putting the drain in intercooler. The ECM calibrations assume some loss of MAF measured air from the leak. The designs of intercoolers and the con...

Re: Ac Problem

The compressor is variable displacement. The evaporator in the case has a temp probe that reports air temp about 1 inch from evaporator. The climate control module gets this signal and then sends a signal to engine control module to request high, medium, or low compresor functioning. The engine cont...

Re: camshaft tuning for fuel economy?

You can get a little torque improvement and higher MPG by advancing intake cam 5-8 degrees. You will suffer some loss at high revs.

Re: P0442 - Smoke Testing

You can use the hose to the purge valve for the connection and you have to seal the vent hose that runs up the filler neck and will have a cylindrical filter at the end. I have some rubber cap that I keep anytime a part has fittings capped off. A short length of the right size hose with something st...
