Re: '04 XC Engine Misfiring-Further Updated (Moisture ruled out - possible defective coils, bad MAF)

OK. Whenever the idle speed is not controllable the ECM does random cylinder canceling to keep speed lower (prevents startling driver and runaway car allegations when throttle is punched instead of brake...). Lumpy idle and sometimes misfire codes from this FMEM. The air leak code is the ECM saying ...

Re: Volvo highest mileage in history

Irv was a very nice guy. I stored that car for a week a few years back. He was in California and his next event was in Dallas for Volvo at a collision repair convention. He represented Volvo Parts at different events promoting use of genuine parts. Some family event, maybe a daughter's marriage, was...

Re: $10,000 S80 Challenge

The heat exchanger stacking business is frustrating on many late model cars and trucks when it is time for replacement. The order that the radiator and its buddies goes into these vehicles is FAR from how it comes apart for service.

Re: Is it true XC90 was rushed out the door and mechanically not as sound as other Volvos?

The adaptive shift programs don't care how you drive. The program looks at how long it is from solenoid operated until the speed sensors data shows completed shift. When it is too long the solenoid operating current is increased for more oil flow and thus pressure. Then the look up table for solenoi...

Re: '04 XC Engine Misfiring-Further Updated (Moisture ruled out - possible defective coils, bad MAF)

The 2002 and later that use electric throttle assembly with ZERO processor circuits inside have great reliability but the connector is not durable. I never unplug them unless it is not avoidable. If the engine comes out the throttle gets unbolted and sits somewhere with harness plugged in on it. The...

Re: Fuel rail pressure still too low AFTER replacing sensor, fuel pump, PEM and filter

Did the car run OK for at least part of a test drive immediately after new pump install? I am asking because many times on P2 models when the pump is removed dirt gets into tank. Fine dust silty stuff that ends up on top of tank. There is a fine mesh cloth filter on bottom of pump inside that pump b...

Re: XC90 Front end issues ...help please

15 mm toe in is substantially out. The negative toe-in (or toe-out) has for a dozen years been suggested on P2 models. The rear bushings on front control arms have compliance and when the torque is applied to front wheels to propel the vehicle the bushings yield and the front wheels move to more toe...

Re: Intake air temp showed up as 203F. Normal?

The air preheater hose from the air heater shroud over exhaust heats the air. Disconnect and plug the vacuum hose over to the air cleaner and enjoy a better running car all summer. You might need it in the winter for throttle icing prevention and it has some positive impacts on faster warm up and lo...

Re: '07 S80 3.2 - Dumping Windshield Washer Fluid - Fixed

The headlight washers are higher pressure than windshield washer and the rubber hose may pop off. If it does then use zip ties as clamps. Probably would never pop off unless you use the more viscous washer fluids in higher than 50% concentration. Rain-X is, or was the last time I bought and used it,...

Re: How do you use a geartronic transmission?

If you are looking for some guide as to "proper" use there is none. At some point in the past one of the car makers decided that manual shifting via toggling the gear lever was more sporty than moving the gear lever sequentially to the desired gear. There were toggle shifters in Formula On...
