Re: The secret to an xc70 radiator drain valve
Not an answer to the draincock but important: The engines with thermostat on block (V8, all 3.2 short 6, 3.0T short 6, P1 5 cylinder, and all P3, and any platform with the Drive-E 4 cylinder) are all designed to use the cooling system vacuum evacuator and fill system. Absent having that tool then yo...

Re: The secret to an xc70 radiator drain valve
That kit would do it. The radiator drains I run across on lots of makes often fails to drain. Gelled coolant and swollen rubber seals can stop them from draining. On the short 6 engines to fill block you can slide the pinch clamp up on the short hose from rad to the trans cooler on left (driver's) s...

Re: No power after braking
Is this a 10 valve motor that uses MAP sensor connected to intake or a 20 valve with MAF? A MAP sensor can go whack-o with high vacuum and cycling key resets the MAP tables in ECM.

Re: E Showell's new V70 R Sonic Blue OMG
I need to get a straight story on the fluid though. Owner's manual says JWS3309 but web says the 6 speed autobox needs "AW-1" fluid, which is pretty hard to find. Jimmy57 any thoughts there? Valvoline Maxlife ATF Dex/Merc, Mercon LV is what I use. It lists 4 volvo equivalencies. It lists ...

Re: When is it necessary to "use new screws"?
I disagree a little. Volvo lists replacement for head bolts on short I6, the VEA 4 cylinders (Drive-E), and diesel white engines. All of these use torque plus two angles and I think some diesels uses two torques plus two angles. Red block and the gasoline white engines do not list head bolt replacem...

Re: Gibbons method for trans fluid 2012 XC70
The cooler line fittings are different and are plastic pipes with a squeeze to unlatch fitting. You will have a hard time getting to the fittings as the cooler is not in radiator but is just bolted to it with external coolant hose connections. Drain and refill is easy on that car. You need a TX 40 a...

Re: Gibbons method for trans fluid 2012 XC70
There is a misconception that all the trans fluid needs to be replaced at once. That is only needed if there is some sort of "poisoning" of the fluid. 82000 miles is not in the range of big risk but if your transmission has some deposits on sealing surface and the rubber seals have hardene...

Re: 2013A XC90 - Cooling System Service
I wouldn't bother to take anything apart for inspection. If the oil fill looks like hell or some other knowledge of it being sludged then get new. Even then they may be pliable and fine for re-use.

Re: LED Headlamp options
The only ones I have tried for others had bad light pattern and the bulb warning message was on 100% of the time due to the bulbs not being within a wattage range that the bulb failure detection was OK with. Maybe someone else with more recent experience will have better news. LED headlight bulbs ha...
