Re: 05 V70 NA, "reduced engine performance"
Careful with what the shop says. Unless that's a very Volvo knowledgeable place, these are the kind of electrical issues hard to diagnose and they can come up with random repairs. The first thing, I'd measure the alternator output and check the cables around it Then perhaps, I'd go in this order (go...

Re: 96' 850 unidentifiable hose at air filter box
One sneaks around under the cold air snout and attachs to an air door, the other goes back to the intake manifold for vacuum. Its the vacuum operated, thermo controlled air cleaner temperature regulation device, of course. PS - I think that one is broken as it looks too short to attach to the air do...

Re: 96' 850 unidentifiable hose at air filter box
Dirk - it looks like you can snap the air box out and snap it back in - two clips. The stock setup has a vacuum rubber L piece that changes the direction of the hose attachment orthogonal to the broken nipple on yours - see first picture. This isnt crucial. Then you can repair yours on a cool evenin...

Re: 96' 850 unidentifiable hose at air filter box
The nice thing about that system, as opposed to the earlier version, is that it fails in the "hot air off" position. On my older cars with the wax capsule I just stuck a rock in the mechanism to hold it in the cold air position since its failure mode was constant hot air. Not having the ho...

Re: 04' V70 ABS problems, how to troubleshoot?
The wheel sensors are the things that give the most trouble - read off the codes and it might tell you what wheel to look over

Re: 04' V70 ABS problems, how to troubleshoot?
Can't speak for the steering sensor, but start with the easy checks first. Abs reluctor rings tend to crack when the CV joint is rusted underneath and is pushing on the ring. A tiny crack in the ring will fool the abs sensor. See the ring at 1:30 www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxC9Ek9HhGI The pulsating and...

Re: 04' V70 ABS problems, how to troubleshoot?
Though wheel sensor codes can be caused by a dirty ABS sensor or as Oragex suggested, a cracked ABS ring on the CV shaft I've never had a wheel sensor code go away just by cleaning the sensor which by the way is a very easy DIY job. The earlier ABS sensors (pre 1999) were highly magnetic and picked ...
