Just keep it better charged and it'll be fine.
Having the key in position 2 is for your own safety. If the airbag blows when power is restored you're not behind the wheel and can't get hurt.

If the battery was flat, unlocking the door with the key has set the alarm. The alarm system will detect if one door is opened while the car battery is disconnected or flat, and will trigger the siren. For how long was the car parked ? The thing is that the carport is quite far away from the house with no chance for electrical hookup. The solar powered float chargers don't cost that much more. Maintaining a charge does not take a lot of power or energy. I am seeing 20 Watts Solar Float chargers on eBay for < $20.00. Still way way...

I fit a 740 hood in the back of my V70 no problem back when I had my GLT and 740. Then again, P80 hoods are larger, I believe.
