P2 cloth A-pillar cover retrofit with plastic
Photos below after text. I recently replaced my peeling 06 V70 fabric A-pillar covers with plastic covers from earlier years. Identifying the correct parts was not straightforward to me (relatively new to Volvos), so here is a writeup to help the next person who wants to try it. The P2 V70 and S60 f...

Re: first time fixing outer cv boot
Progress! The oppressive rains finally paused long enough for me to get the driveshaft off. VIDA's procedure was to disconnect the lower strut bolts, but that means carefully measuring strut position and/or messing up camber, so I just undid the ball joint at the bottom and used a big ratchet strap ...

Re: 2008 3.2 FWD engine mounts procedure - advice requested
These are for my 08 3.2 xc90 (B6234S engine) Volvo plays a lot of part number games, in some cases using multiple numbers for the same part, in other cases using different parts in the same model year based on the chassis serial number (part of the VIN). I did not see any variations in actual parts ...

Re: AC only gets cold at high speed
There seems to be a common issue with the xc90 ac compressors that have variable displacement (based on what I've read). There is some kind of piston that gets stuck when it is cold, and then when the engine compartment heats up, it gets unstuck. I have exactly these symptoms. Have read that it is p...

Re: 06 v70: how do I access parking brake adjuster?
I am astonished at how easy it was once I knew where the boot separates. Never would have guessed. I just pulled up on the perimeter of the leather boot at each of the five slot locations. Here are some additional pictures I took - same setup as abscate's. View from left: handbrake-boot-left.jpg Vie...

Re: 08 3.2 FWD driveshaft 172k mi: replace transmission seals too?
I measured mine - between the carrier bearing and the transmission (same place you measured yours) I get 43mm. Looks like the same part number as yours.

Re: 06 v70 front bumper bar r/r - how?
I had a chance to go at it with the drill today. To answer my own questions: yes, all six areas need to be drilled out in their centers. I started with a small bit and worked up to 3/8 in, which was enough to separate the four welds on the ends. The two inner circular areas needed a slightly larger ...

Re: DIY: 2005 XC90 Heater Core Replacement
Just another data point on the Nissens: as I reported above, I installed a Nissens six months ago. In our mild Northern CA climate (temps down to freezing at night for a month or two, with thin ice on the windshield), my son, who drives the v70 daily, has not observed any issue with heating effectiv...
