Re: Pressure wash the valve cover?
I would refrain from using a high PSI pressure washer, like 3000. 1700 PSI didn't do any damage. But it won't do any good without hot tanking. Weld your own hot tank! I got 4 or 5 pieces of 2"x1" zinc plated steel sheets from Home Depot and stick welded a tank. MIG would be much easier. Al...

Re: 02 XC70 - The repairs have started
Nice work, however why is this not done or is it like the transmission fluid  suppose to be in spec the life of the car? Does VIDA give a mileage or time that this needs to be checked? . Solid tappets are good for the life of car. In Volvo's opinion, you should be buying a new Volvo shortly a...

Re: How hard is it to retro-fit headlight wipers? 2007 XC70
There is also as you mention parts that like to break when owners don't put winter wash fluid in. I leave winter fluid in year around as we do so little mileage we don't use a lot of fluid. Our P2 started to use a lot of fluid at one point and on removing the front bumper the valve on the RHS looke...

Re: Heater core replacement - Brands? - 06 XC70
Many thanks, but it is for the 06 XC70 that is my son's, and not the S60 I worked on on the weekend. But they should be the same. I am in a monitoring mode on this just now. Not sure if or what is leaking if anything. I had been planning a coolant flush in the fall here, so to swap it out, this wou...

Re: Should I bother cleaning valves? If so, with what? xc70 2004
Doesn't Simple Green eat Aluminum? IIRC, it says "no" on a regular Simple Green jug, but in my experience it does. All my engine aluminum parts showed some heavy oxidation within a few weeks/months, even that I powerwashed everything well. It also ate a few beer cans I used for valves cle...

Re: Lapping (sanding) head down, within spec but still dirty. Keep going?
You are doing it wrong. First off, this is a Swedish car, right? So you MUST use IKEA kitchen table! ;) Also a polished 3/8" or thicker glass on top of it, and let it sit for a few days to relax and straighten. My setup was under 0.05 mm (0.002") flat in the work area. 1.jpg Grit 320 sandp...

This is a turbo engine, it already has too much compressionvolvolugnut wrote: ↑09 Oct 2024, 14:38 If you remove too much thickness from the head, you can increase the compression ratio too much. This can cause ping and the need for higher octane fuel.

Re: Vida CEM swapping
Almost any digital electric circuit needs a common ground between its parts. Try it with door open, but without key. With key in position 0, 1 or 2. Remove CEM_PN_AUTODETECT: https://github.com/vtl/volvo-cem-cracker/blob/master/volvo-cem-cracker.ino#L14 (in that case you may need to tweak LS/HS spe...

Re: Vida CEM swapping
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I do swap the large and small sequence numbers, but if I had made a mistake somewhere, the block would not have been diagnosed and the configuration would have been incorrect in CEMtool. For you P/N the shuffle order is nr.2 in array: https://github.com/vtl/volvo-cem-crac...
