Re: New starter burned up and almost caught fire.
I know this is a dead topic but I thought I would give an update if anyone is curious. I went and warranted the starter motor and was able to install a new one. Been about a month now with the new starter and no issues! Still find it unacceptable that the first one shorted out like it did.

Changed out the voltage regulator from a worn out bosch to a transpo ib520. Did an oil change and transmission drain and fill. Have to tackle the exhaust next week. Full load readings went from 12 < on old reg to 12.5 V with all loads present. Had a .3 drop on battery + cable so that needs to be dea...
