Re: Name that rusty part
The clues of "round, aluminum" make me think it could it have been an aluminum drain plug gasket installed on the engine oil or the transmission fluid sumps. You're right, it's the engine oil drain plug gasket. 50 more MVS points to jreed. You're quite good at this. The drain plug was ins...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
So far it has been so much easier working on a car where you are not lying on a cold floor flat on your back! Nice lift. I'm all for safety but those caution strips have got to go. I'd get so tangled in them it would be more of a hazard. I've been enjoying the lift at my local Makerspace for years....

Re: Brake caliper failures and how to prevent them
Fittings seized: On rear calipers, the brake line fitting can become seized inside the caliper. I suspect the hole for the fitting has shrunk due to expansion from rust, grabbing the fitting. Removing the fitting will flatten its threads so it won't fit in a new caliper. A new caliper will require a...

Re: Brake caliper failures and how to prevent them
Sounds like your experiences with the Napa Adaptive One have been positive and it's your #1 recommendation for rebuilt front and rear calipers. I found my older post showing the NAPA Adaptive One calipers after years of use. Assume that the car they were on was as neglected as possible. The left on...

Re: I spotted a Volvo! thread
Who in RI has the lovely red P80 S70... with a Jaguar hood ornament? P.S. Your rear suspension looks a little bouncy over highway potholes.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
Always a joy to see pics of that 850. Nice website as well. I am perhaps most jealous that you bought a new trunk liner from the dealership. I'll have to look again and see if dealerships can get a new trunk liner (and all weather floor mats) for my 1998-2000 V70. They weren't available other times ...

Re: FCP Euro's "Customer Appreciation Event" is Live, Save on Volvo Parts Today!
The code won't work if you have any items marked with MAP and the red tag. That stands for "minimum advertised pricing". It's the lowest price the manufacturer will allow the part to be sold for, thus coupons won't apply to it. Remove those items and place them on a separate order and the ...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
Yes, the fittings are likely ruined. See my growing draft thread about caliper failures for info about flaring new fittings.brunocerous wrote: ↑19 Jun 2023, 09:15 I managed to get the brake line off, but the threads that hold it in place don’t easily screw back in. Will I need to replace that screw?

Re: Picked up probably the cheapest running V70R in new england
Viewing those pictures felt like giving a colonoscopy to bigfoot.
How did this car pass NH state inspection in 2019? Why are there chains on the front control arms? Is that spring-within-a-spring really held together by a hose clamp? So many questions...
