my 850 had a plastic strap when it broke I put two zip ties thru the slots. Canister hooks on a little shelf. My S70 might have the strap and a small bolt helping to secure it to the shelf.

Whining for a few seconds after start up is what it should do. It winds up then winds down and stops. Now if the little guy is squealing or screeching or throws a code then you are having issues.

OK everyone! I big thank you to misha with the knowledge and advice. After a few hours a day, after work, after brain clearing jogs, and in two days of rain, I have replaced alternator and fired her up today. No flickering dash lights. Consider this a fix! Hot damn!
