Re: Strut question ?

You're around 100k I believe. Like Steve said, I'd leave them be. Only time I'd think of replacing is if I had wheel hop or oil/debris caking. Our 04 XC still rides on it's original's, dry as a nun's bush & smooth/quiet as can be. I've replaced seats several times & a couple coil springs on ...

Re: Strut question ?

Our 04 XC front is Sachs. That's a good point, taking hits/bumps pretty hard - I'd say that the XC's are definitely not as abusive on shocks as say the V70's, due to cushier damping. Rears are pretty obvious if they are not providing damping anymore. Wheels tend to hop after hitting bumps. Our V70R ...

Re: V70R guys - I'm considering a V70R, what should I be wary of and looking for?

Here’s what I ended up doing to the car. The only two things I missed during my initial “inspection” of the car (on a Minneapolis city street) were the passenger side tie rod end link & a drivers side ball joint. The rest I used as a bargaining chip to get the out of pocket way down. ;) Overall ...

Re: A handbrake story

Another thing to consider on these is the "expander" or "dolphin", as this lady calls it, often becomes rusted & basically immobile. The hinge point is essentially just a zinc'd rivet that corrosion affects over time, eventually limiting it's range of motion to nil. They are ...

Re: Question about IPD control arms?

I apologize as I don't have much for miles on them, but recently did Meyle HD control arms (Turkish), Meyle ball joints (Turkish) from FCP on the V70R. I think it was about $225 for arms & $40 for ball joints. I don't mind doing the manual labor part, rather enjoy it honestly. So figured with li...

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

That's been my hunch as well with that spendy upper pipe. The bottle-neck is where the PTC nipple ports into it & that's the most likely & most obvious (as well as easiest to check) place for a blockage, thus why I've never replaced one. I figure if you're cooling ok (coolant temp), there ar...

Re: Oil leakage

I'm needing to do crank & cam seals myself & certainly hope I don't end up with one like yours, but that appears to be the seam between your oil pan and the bottom of the block. Which, from reading isn't a terribly uncommon leak to encounter. Apparently the various o-rings get brittle over t...

Re: Volvo Findings! (What have you found on Craigslist?)

I completely agree with all your points, (except color) . I'd just like to have a 6-speed auto VR, to see if all the talk is true about them being almost equivalent to the M66 performance wise. No, I would never pay what the seller is asking. But someone will, that's all I was saying. Sometimes it's...

Re: HEAT!! (for your feet...and hands...in the garage)

You will never regret having heat in that space. Even sheets of the pink rigid board insulation between the rafters would make a big difference. As budget allows, do your garage door first, if it isn't already insulated. That thin metal does an excellent job of transferring heat outdoors & freez...
