Re: Rev issues TF-80 transmission
You don't mention how many miles, and when (or if) you last changed the transmission fluid. With a 2007, I'm guessing you have over 100k miles, and since Volvo doesn't recommend it, many people don't change the fluid. My experience is that it does need to have the fluid changed, and it sounds like y...

Re: Rear Camshaft Position Aperture '00 V70xc - Does orientation matter?
It matters - that's how the ECU knows which rotation the crankshaft is on. I haven't worked on that exact year, but I think you'll find if you look closely, it will only go back properly in one orientation. Looking at the back of the camshaft, there is a groove that is offset from center. I think th...

Re: Old transmission fluid change... Risks/Benefits... 2006 XC90
I vote 100% change the fluid, you'll be happy that you did. Transmission fluids can be a touchy subject and if you use the wrong spec you'll not be very happy. The AW5x transmission uses straight up JWS3309, folks can say what they wish about alternatives but for many years the most common fluids t...

Re: V8 Balance Shaft
Has Volvo ever published a replacement interval for these parts? I have an '08 coming apart to replace the valve cover gaskets and it has over 160K on it. If there is a recommended replacement interval this would be a good time to do it but I would hate to pull a head off for no reason. I've never ...

Re: Brake pad squeal--- request for reviews on ATE front pads
The squeal is from the pads vibrating in the frame. I've always had good success by putting the anti-squeal compound on both the back of the pad, as well as where the ears contact the frame. I use the CRC "Disk Brake Quiet" on all my Volvos - 240, 850, V70, XC90, and all variety of pads. I...

Re: 2008 xc90 alternator ID
0-121-715-009 & 6G9N-10300-MA are Bosch and Ford part numbers for a 180A alternator, Volvo 31110085. Ford owned Volvo from 1999 - 2010. Of course they combine their purchasing power to get a better price. Do not be surprised if it is stamped FoMoCo ( Fo rd Mo tor Co mpany) on the back also. Ric...

Re: 850T - Intermittent stumble/very rough running
Yes...BUT. '95 turbo have vacuum controlled FPR on fuel rail. That said.... It should have 43.5 psi at 1st prime without starting the engine -around 35 at idle -and again 43.5 psi at full throttle It doesn't have constant 43.5 all the time like M4.4 cars. Good point, thanks for keeping me straight!...

Re: V8 Alternator
It's done, and it's working so we are happy. :) All in, it took 10-11 hours. It should have been a few hours less. Taking it out was 4 hours the first day, and about an hour the second. The first day I got everything moved except the alternator - jacked the car up, disassembled the strut, disassembl...

Re: 850r failing emissions miserably (HC and CO)
Adding in my $0.02 worth here... High HC and CO are the result of incomplete combustion. It's trying to burn, but some fuel molecules don't burn at all (so you get HC), and some only burn part way (to CO, not all the way to CO2). This happens when you are running rich, too much fuel / not enough air...

Re: Misfire - 2005 XC90 V8
Some minor updates here... 1. Today I had a light-bulb moment and realized that I forgot to put the clips on the injectors - the ones that clip them to the fuel pipe. Don't know how I missed that. That would probably account for some fuel smell, probably also let the pressure fall off and maybe acco...
