Re: CNC Your Own Parts
This brings up a production machining question I've had as far as accurate dimensions. If there is a solid shaft (not a bolt) that passes through a round hole machined in another piece, they both can't be "exactly" 19mm. Is one or the other just a micron smaller or larger diameter so they...

Re: CNC Your Own Parts
More rolling bearing trivia: Rolling bearings have a life rating expressed as L subscript 10. This is the expected life in millions of revolutions with the input to the equation the RPM. The rating is for 90% reliability as there is always variation in the life. There are other more detailed bearing...

Re: Help Being Cheap
Just how many barrels do you have? Ocean tankers are cheap for large volumes.

Re: CNC Your Own Parts
Here goes. Bearing manufacturers make common size bearings. There match inside diameter, outside diameter, and width of other manufacturers so they can interchange. However, they may not have the same loading and life ratings because some manufacturers make better bearings from better materials. So ...

Re: New to us 2004 XC70 with coolant in the oil. Likely head gasket, do I need to look out for anything else?
I would do a compression test to see if there are any very low cylinders. If very low test, you might not want to bother with a tear down.

Re: Non-Volvo car chat megathread
The 1932 Ford was a major design change for Ford. This was the first year for Ford's famous flat head V8. There were V8 engines from other manufacturers, but none in the low price market. The new V8 had all cylinders cast in a common block and valves mounted in the V of the block. Heads had no valve...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
Yesterday I investigated the crank but no start for the 1978 244. First test was a timing light attached to the coil wire to see if there was any sparking. Not a flash at all. Next, I removed the main ignition fuse under the hood and checked for continuity. It was good. Next I looked around at wires...

Re: '05 XC70 Engine pull @ junkyard--any suggestions?
If you struggle to remove one part, move on to another. Likely it will get easier when you come back. Bag, box and TAG. Mark as you go. Group things from an area or system. A box of mixed screws is a future nightmare. Zip lok bags are good, not the cheap sandwich bags that may tear. Use all those Am...
