Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

Yesterday and today, my city street department laid new asphalt on my dead end street. This is a good thing since I think the original base was laid in 1980's and had a few pot holes filled since then. Bad thing is I had to drive Volvo through the emulsion they sprayed on the old surface. A couple t...

Re: FS: 1960 IH pickup and 1964 Rambler wagon

My opinion on the old cars: Offer them as is. Let a buyer decide how to start or move them. A knowledgeable buyer will have their own ideas of the best practice. This will be less effort on your part and less explaining of what you did and didn't do to the cars. There will also be fewer questions ab...

Re: 1986 245 DL Ignition control unit question

Have you checked for spark from the coil wire to ground or using a timing light on the coil wire?
Do you have a manual with test information and schematic?
Hall sensors can fail.

Re: What non automotive projects and repairs are you doing?

In the semi, sort of, famous car road trip game my wife and I created, dead mattresses on side of the street were worth 2 points to the first person to spot them. It happens often in our town. Beer trucks are 20 points. But anyone can call TILT on a beer truck spotting to reset all scores to zero. W...

Re: Maintenance Log - An expensive and naive s70 rebuild - life lessons earned and the quest to make it worth it.

Life lessons with cars: Learn about cars while working on cars you drive. Failures are lessons if you learn from them. Your car work will generally save you money. Car repair confidence will help you try other repairs. Have at least one more vehicle than you need so you can work without rushing. vol...

Re: 98 s70. What is this coolant hose clamp and how do I remove it

Better than average clamp in the photo. It has grooves instead of slots. Slots can tear the hose.

Re: Looking at a 1998 V70 XC, advice wanted.

My $0.02: Any vehicle this old you need to look at the years and ignore the miles. The seller may want to jack the price because of the low miles, but I think it's a suckers bet. A car from the north east is likely to have corrosion and you are right about rubber parts needing replacement. Rubber pa...

Re: Sudden complete electrical loss '05 V70 n/a

I think first effort is to get a fully charged battery installed. Nothing good to test unless you have about 12.5 volts available.
