Re: No start on 1973 144E after restoring engine compartment.

Good news! I have solved the no start issue on my 1973 144. Somehow a wire inside a bundle running from the main relay (attached to the fuel pump relay) to the coil was broken. This explains why I couldn't hear the pressure up indication when the key was turned on. Routed a new wire and the car star...

Re: No start when at warm temperature

Yes, this is a mistake I made with this vehicle. In the "old days" I would go to wrecking yards*** and pull all kinds of parts as spares for Brit cars - you could get a box of parts for cheap. Then I had all kinds of substitute parts to determine what was wrong. With the Volvo, so little h...

Re: What non automotive projects and repairs are you doing?

No, just slabs re-hung. Courtyard posts have big glass and are all custom-built so taking it all apart would be a disaster.

Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

On my previous Aw55 transmission, changing the oil at one point yielded no benefits. And when I say changing the oil, I do mean 40 actual quarts over a span of a year. At some point I replaced it. My "new" transmission is somewhat better and I think it's the first where I've seen a benefit...

Re: Need advice for starting a car sitting for 3 years 96 850 R

Just turn it over carefully with a 30mm wrench and feel if there is any resistance, if it turn over twice….. Check the oil for water. Get a good battery Fire it up, let it get hot. That's a good idea, thanks for the advice. I'm assuming it would be best to remove the plugs, but I'm not sure I'll be...

Re: What non automotive projects and repairs are you doing?

In my defense, I only studied Baking Soda protons in middle school in the 80s, and at that time not much was known about them. We had 600 page Franco-Prussian Baking Soda proton textbooks which were, in retrospect, inaccurate.

Another way to drain the tank is a hand operated fluid transfer pump with a hose down the filler neck. That way the filter isn't getting gummed up if there is any debris.
