Re: 1996 850 Wagon Service Light On

Rears tend to be more of an issue in areas where salt is used. Quality of re-man'd calipers is very variable in terms of the parts used especially the pistons. Fluid change is also something many neglect. Every 3 years max. Rear brakes don't work as hard, and in over 45 years of Volvo ownership rear...

Re: 1996 850 Wagon Service Light On

Those cheap Cardone Centric Autozone Pep Boys calipers are using pot metal pistons which will rust in place in 2-3 years in moist climates.

The Volvo ones last 15 years. You have to decide how many brake jobs are worth the price delta

Re: 850 Rear Brake Repair - AGAIN - Tips

I've said this before, I'm fairly certain that the rate of a chemical reaction doubles for every 10 deg rise in temp, so hot dragging brakes rust a lot faster. I want to thank you for this thread, especially the above quote. Your posts all those years ago helped give me the confidence to tackle my ...

I am having issue with a driver's door creak on a friends car. I swapped in a used one I had as the original had fallen into several pieces. Since then have had issues with the Torx bolt coming loose twice even though tightened and permetex thread locker. Got to thing that either the used part is fa...

It's good timing that this topic got a post after nine months because the powder coating on my calipers was just completed! They sat for six months at a powder coating shop which couldn't do them so I picked them up. Then I got too busy to find a new shop. I finally found a great shop an hour away, ...

Re: 1996 850 Wagon Service Light On

Check engine light is on, code P0133 which is an oxygen sensor. Are there more than one, and does this tell me which one? I'll search and see if I can figure it out. Edit: Okay read that this is the front one, next wondering if it is difficult to remove. Odd thing, I looked at it a month ago but co...

Re: 1996 850 Wagon Service Light On

When I did mine, it took me longer to get the wire routed and plugged back in, than actually changing the sensor. The sensor came out with no more "trouble" than the spark plug in my push mower. My car has seen very little snow/salt, However. When I did the o2 sensor in my truck, It was ha...

Re: 1996 850 Wagon Service Light On

Yes the rear O2 sensor is behind the cat. Lots of pics here https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=45547 Any O2 sensor code start by addressing exhaust leaks. Exhaust leak means an incorrect composition of the exhaust gases relative to what's actually coming out of the comb...
