The average person has no clue how to fix/maintain a vehicle and relies on a "mechanic" to deal with any problems. To most, cars are a throwaway appliance.
Mechanics work on cars for money. Working on older cars doesn't make money.

Re: 850 manual conversion part(s) question
I don't have pics from the manual swap on my T5, but a manual console piece is NOT needed. I used a piece of 1/16" black ABS plastic. I cut out a piece that matched the needed opening for the manual shifter boot and them left the flange wide enough to epoxy that to the bottom of the auto consol...

Re: WTB, Volvo S70 Thule cross bar mtg feet
So, I have the Thule stuff on both of our 850's. They are using the 400XT Aero feet mounts with the #161 Fit Kit. The fit kit includes the foot pads (#26 (4)) and the clips (#120 (2) and #261 (2)). These fit the square bars. https://turbochuckcom.ipage.com/webimages/projects/97%20Volvo%20854T5/2021/...

Re: VS M4.4 tuning dead? Start again here?
I know VAST has an option in his ECUs for an alternate mapset- Alternate Mapset: A second map set, allowing you to switch injector calibrations, fuel map, ignition map and boost maps on the fly, without the need to flash a new tune. Usually this is used for a gasoline and E85 map, but can be used fo...

Re: VS M4.4 tuning dead? Start again here?
I'd have to dig back in the VS thread, but I think the base "DIY M4.4" stuff has the selectable maps, but I could be wrong. I know there are alternative maps listed in the XDF. I don't remember how you select them though. In run all of my turbo cars on the 93 PON octane. This is equivalent...

Re: Radiator piece broke off into hose? 98’ S70
Hey Kesha.
Yeah, a new radiator is going to be the fix, unfortunately,
Usually not a difficult job, as long as the bolt holding the radiator to the body aren't terribly rusted.

Re: What non automotive projects and repairs are you doing?
Finished up a small (10 panel, 3.5kW) solar install on the house a couple weeks ago. Would've liked to have finished it earlier in the year, but life was busy. No storage yet, as I bought what we had money for. I wasn't going to take any loans and didn't want to just sit and wait to install. Right n...

Re: What non automotive projects and repairs are you doing?
Will you provide more details for your system and why you chose what you did? I want to add solar panels in the future. volvolugnut Nothing elaborate, really. It's a grid-tied system that I installed myself. We had some funds set aside, so I bought what we could afford at the time. I bought a "...

Re: What non automotive projects and repairs are you doing?
Thanks for the details. East and West facing panels are not generally recommended. Have you found their performance satisfactory? I have South facing primary roof I could use for panels, but also East and West for additional panels if they are useful. How did you haul the panels up to your roof? I ...
