Re: 850 steering rack teardown and rebuild

OK, now that I have a moment. When I left off, I was getting the teflon seals on the pinion drum and the rack piston seal. I wound up with a few wraps of electrical tape and some hose clamps on there and let them sit for a couple days (I was busy anyway, so it didn't bother me any to wait). After th...

Re: 850 steering rack teardown and rebuild

OK. I referenced a PDF previously, and I can't seem to find it online to link it here. Instead I uploaded it to my site and it can be found HERE It's OLD and I can't find the info on the original person(or web link) who did the work to credit them, but they are apparently out of the UK (RHD rack). I...

Re: Squeaking from dashboard C70

If it's been like that for this long, I'd be more inclined to check the tightness of the 4 fasteners at the cowl. You have to remove the wipers and the cowl cover in the engine bay, but that's all pretty simple. The heads of the 4 bolts are accessible there. 10mm socket and a small 1/4" drive r...

Re: Squeaking from dashboard C70

Even a 1/4 turn could increase the compressive force enough to silence things. I'm not saying to wail on them with a 1/2-meter-long breaker bar. ;) They're only M6 bolts. If one spins easily, then that mount is probably broken. Things settle. Things compress. Especially after 25 years. It's clamping...

Re: Post Manual Swap: 1994 Volvo 850 Turbo

Without knowing exactly HOW the swap was done, it's hard to say. It's possible the mechanic just bypassed the NSS/PNP switch so the starter will actually engage and start the car, but left all of the other wiring, etc in place. Are you getting a CEL at all? (Does it even work?) I'd imagine that you'...

Re: 850 steering rack teardown and rebuild

OK, finally got weather and schedule to cooperate to get the rack swapped out. Not much to show, as I was hammering to get things wrapped up before evening plans. Started around 10a and was done putting my tools away around 5:30. I debated on trying to wrestle the rack out by just lowering the subfr...

Re: VS M4.4 tuning dead? Start again here?

Have you done all of this step setting up TP? Setting up TunerPro: ..... Step 6: Install the Flasher Plugin. Extract the Flashing Plugin .zip (or .rar) and place the 2 files in the TunerPro root folder. In TunerPro, go to Tools -> custom Tools -> Edit Custom Tools. Click New Tool. Give it a name lik...

Re: VS M4.4 tuning dead? Start again here?

Ah, OK. Is it the Fenix 5.2? I'm not really familiar with it or the earlier 850's. I do have a copy of a '96 wiring diagram book HERE . In it, they do have the wiring schematics for the Fenix 5.2 and the Motronic M4.4. With a little detective work, you can find the MAP(pressure sensor) (7/81) and th...

Re: 850 steering rack teardown and rebuild

Well, that annoying rattle came back in full vengeance a couple weeks back, and I think I finally isolated it. Looks like it was the strut bearing, as we were finally able to isolate the noise. https://turbochuckcom.ipage.com/webimages/projects/97%20Volvo%20854T5/2025/Suspension/oldparts.jpg The old...
