You have a 98. No transponder.

I can tell quite easily because this is the transponder key I have for my EU spec '96 R (EU spec Volvos got immobilizers in 1996, including the erratic kingdom which was part of of Europe back then). They needed to size up the key to make the transponder fit. It just won't fit inside of the old styl...

Clemens beat me to it. The black 'body' of the key is a lot bigger to hold the chip. Yours is not it.

The vacuum tree is the plastic piece that fits in the top of the intake manifold and has multiple vacuum ports. It's on the right on my 96.

You can see it in the middle of the right edge of this picture. Right were that white vacuum line comes into the picture.
