Re: Bought some oil today!

10w40 would be more appropriate for these n/a high mileage cars...5w40 too.

5 or 10w30 is too thin...it should only be used in extreme cold climate.

But...again...it's your car and you decide what viscosity oil you will use in your car.

Re: 96 850 leaking ATF, not 100% sure of the source yet..

You could also clean it up and add uv dye to just the power steering reservoir , then see if it glows! https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-10-5045-Multi-Purpose-Fluorescent-Detection/dp/B008I2VPC4/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3DLR5GL2MROIE&keywords=Uv+tracing+dye+oil&qid=1651218474&sprefix=uv+tracing+dye+...

Re: T5 drive shafts different from T5M

I only know a bit on this one, as I have only owned autotragics. a) Definitely. Turbos have a larger outer CV. Fit is completely interchangeable however. b) Yes, but also interchangeable. c) I think not. See this thread, tryingbe was very knowledgable on 850 manual swaps: https://www.matthewsvolvosi...

Perfectly good parts removed: What do you do with them?

When performing preventive maintenance like a timing belt you know is overdue for replacement but is showing no signs of any problem, what do you do with all of the perfectly good parts you remove from the car? When I do a timing belt, there's no way I'm not replacing the water pump, idler and tensi...

Re: Perfectly good parts removed: What do you do with them?

Well I keep all of my " good " used parts in Tupperware containers stashed in the corner of my garage. Having restored many other older cars & trucks, I can't toss anything that might just make the difference, if the parts become hard to find in the future.

Re: Drive Cycle With Front Wheels Jacked Up

For the record, "driving" the car on jack stands does not sound safe to me. If the vibration were to allow the car to fall, you'd launch forward. When cars are run on a dyno, they're restrained with heavy straps, and a huge fan sits in front of the grill providing air flow. The proposed s...

Re: low compression in cylinder #2 - should I attempt a ring job?

I hate open-ended (unresolved) problems, so I want to follow up and close this soap opera. I ended up completing the head job (removed all valves, lapped, put it all together). Against better advice here, I did not do the oil pan rings (since they would be as much work later), The motor runs about a...

Re: Pull tranny and motor or just the motor?

I can't speak as to the M56, but I pulled Sveedy's engine out from the top while leaving the auto trans in place. Had no problems with it.
I know others pull both both out from the top while still connected, but I felt it would be easier to leave the trans / linkage etc alone.
