Re: AC compressor and evap
The evap is worth paying for. To put it in perspective, the original has lasted this long. One more will hopefully last longer. Also depending on when you installed the cabin filter mode from a V/C/S 70 the new one could last longer. Pilling the dash is not as bad as it is made out. Getting the evap...

Re: AC compressor and evap
Pull the cabin air filter , if equipped, and inspect the evaporator for dark oily stains that show leakage. Freon leaks will carry a bit of the PAG oil which will stick dust and dirt and leave markers. If it’s from 96, I would replace it prophylactically. You can Dremel off the evaporator from the h...

Re: AC compressor and evap
Robert just did it on his 850T5R
But...fair warning, it didn't fix it, it needed a dryer.
Plus one with Dr. Abscate - and Robert - if it gets another dryer, that's a bench job.
( Robert has almost as many P80s as I do, but my yard is bigger.)

Re: 96 850 glt sedan
This subject rang a bell and after some searching I found it. This covers using GKN boots inner and outer part numbers and the use of an Audi inner for the NA cars.

Almost made a mistake swapping dashes (ECC vs MCC)
On the wife's GLT, the dash we had installed 7 years ago was starting to look like it was going through the "blip" and disappearing. I sourced a new dash for it and had forgotten about the fact that the donor I had pulled it from was a MCC car. I had this revelation after I had set the new...

Re: Likely hood of bent valves with broken timing belt
My 2005 xc90 has the same 5 cylinder interference engine as all the p80s. My timing belt broke while sitting in traffic. I did not know this at the time and spent several weeks troubleshooting the problem. In that time I turned the engine over like 1000 times. When I discovered the broken timing bel...
