Re: 850 steering rack teardown and rebuild

So, I printed up this little taper tool to install those seals, with minimal stretching. https://turbochuckcom.ipage.com/webimages/projects/97%20Volvo%20854T5/2024/Steering/Rack%20Rebuild/rackteardown_5.jpg When I get the extra seals, I'll give this a go. What I'll do is wrap some electrical tape ar...

Re: V70 1999 I was driving along and the car shuts off. Instruments on the dash went bananas. Now have a p1618 code.

The 1999 models were the first with a lot of electronic and CANBUS stuff and they hate low bus voltage to anything. I once drove one back from Rhode Island with a battery on its last legs, with a great alternator, and each time I used the high beams, the ABS faulted and chirped and gave me an ABS co...

Re: Exhaust valve question -'99 GLT

I took the collective silence as "yes" , I was missing something. So I kept spraying the washers with throttle body cleaner and shaking the head, and eventually they all fell out. It must have been a build up of carbon around them that was preventing them from passing by the exhaust valve ...

Re: 850 steering rack teardown and rebuild

OK the extra seals arrived, but I have been busy with things this past week and have very little time to spend on this. I prepped for installing the new seals. https://turbochuckcom.ipage.com/webimages/projects/97%20Volvo%20854T5/2024/Steering/Rack%20Rebuild/sealinstall_1.jpg They all installed pret...

Re: Oil consumption

Running a 0 weight oil on these engines is not a good idea. I appreciate 5W-40 which I use as specified for my 2000 V70R for where I live does not burn anywhere like that. I would suggest trying Walmart or Amazon or Rock Auto for oil of the correct type and see if that helps the consumption. As long...

Re: Intermittent misfires 98 T5

Open up that cap and rotor and inspect for moisture and ice - if you get stuff up in there it behaves badly. While you are fiddling with those cap and rotor screws you can self-flagellate yourself for not buying a 1999 with coil on plugs and a sexy Italian throttle body.

A $100 '99 V70 GLT

So I figured I'd start a new thread on this project that I stepped into a couple of months ago. It started with me rescuing a '99 V70 that was headed to the scrap yard. 161k miles. Desert Wind paint. It had apparently been sitting for 4 years after being overheated and warping the head. The owner th...

Subject has been beat to death. You can't just slap a turbo on a NA engine.

Re: V70 1999 I was driving along and the car shuts off. Instruments on the dash went bananas. Now have a p1618 code.

So lots of good answers here, but the very first thing I'd do is check the fat black negative cable from the battery to the body. There's a bolt there that holds the cable to the body on the inside of the fender, near the battery. Take it out, examine judiciously. Is it shiny & new, or is the bo...

Re: Need #9176272 shifter cables, 1998 V70 manual, for senior w/ cancer

Toni! Hang in there! I am also a cancer fighter. These (it's a pair) cables are discontinued, but I found a set at Pelican Parts in Harbor City, CA. They have a website, here's a link to the exact part on their online store. https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info2/9176272.htm Please let me know if y...
