Re: New England Winter for a Desert Volvo?
Basic road safety 101 is keep the best tyres in the rear so the car doesn't unexpectedly oversteer, especially if braking hard. Each to his or her own but it's really terrible and dangerous advice to give someone else. As I said, I have never had a problem nor noticed a difference. Terrible and dan...

Re: 1998 Volvo V70 will not start after plugs, cap, rotor
Based on the initial symptoms, it sounds like you have the wires wrong. But you say you triple checked them and they are correct. You said it still will not start with all the old stuff back in, so it's unlikely the new is bad. If she won't fire on starting fluid, then your problem is compression or...

Re: Safety of S70 vs newer cars
I think active safety controls in new cars are breeding worse drivers. If you've ever watched the last few seasons of "Canada's Worst Driver," nearly all of their bad drivers claim total dependence on their cars active collision avoidance systems. Technology is no substitute for situationa...

Re: '98 S70, 93k miles, intermittent Rough running and stalling
My primary suspicions would be fuel pump relay, vacuum leak, MAF, in that order. First and last are pretty easy to test in just a few minutes. Also, a burnt valve should cause a constant missfire which should cause a flashing CEL. Even running on 4 of 5 cylinders, engine should not be struggling to ...

Re: '96 850 Check Engine Light
In my experience, P0172 is always caused by a severe vacuum leak. Check your vacuum lines. With the engine running, you might be able to hear a wooshing or hissing sound to help you track down the leak. What rpm does it idle at? P0440 is usually the J and L hose on the charcoal canister. Replacing t...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)
Looked through its history trying to see when the plugs were last changed... Can't see any evidence they ever were at all! What is the recommended replacement for the T5? Seen several threads on here with so many different answers, with the only real reoccurring comment being the gap - 0.028" ...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)
Spark plugs come in a blue package that says Volvo and models they fit on it.. ;-) Definitely going to be the best option! You can find good deals online for genuine plugs. I've always been a bit confused with what are the proper spark plugs for the T5. I see lots of recommendations for Bosch coppe...

Re: Delayed start when cold.
I checked and the Bosch rebuilt starter states that it was rebuilt in the USA. The rebuilt alternator that I bought was rebuilt in Germany. Not sure if I'll use either of them, but the alternator was only $60 after core return and since I have a leaking PS pump, my original 285K mile alternator is ...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)
I swear it is some people's mission in life to ensure others can't have nice things. If I had a nickle for every time my Volvo was carelessly (or deliberately) hit in a parking lot by some... well you know..., I would have enough money to have every ding pulled out and the entire car repainted Saffr...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)
That is an awesome story! I have a revenge story of my own, well, it's not really revenge and not nearly as cool as yours, but it think it to be cool anyway. So this happended a few years back when I was 22 years old and I owned a Ford Fiesta mk1 at the time. For those who don't know, I'm 2.05 mete...
