Re: Engine mounts and replacement!

Today I replaced the firewall mount as well as the upper engine mount. The upper engine mount that I had replaced originally was the incorrect diameter and easily moved sideways within the bracket. I was not happy and got another one from my supplier. Below is a post that deals very clearly with the...

Re: Engine swap questions 850 Turbo into S70 T5 ..Update !!

I have removed and re-installed T5 engines several times lately. I didn't take pictures. Drain coolant via the drain on back of engine towards t belt end of engine. No need to drain rad unless you want it drained. Disconnect battery, remove it for some more room if you desire or need to clean anythi...

Re: Stereo Lighting Half Out

The bulbs everyone has referred too so far are great for the dash switches, but not what I buy for the radio bulbs. Save yourself the minor headache, buy the radio bulbs that are already wired up in the correct base: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/560-CNW123?

Re: Lower Rad Hose Keeps Leaking

I see you already purchased a hose, but... Two words: Silicone Hoses I switched to silicone radiator hoses and have done expansion tank hoses now with it too. I had a bad lower leak from a basically brand new hose from O'Reilly auto parts. I would leave streams of coolant and had to carry a gallon e...

Re: Preparing to Replace Clutch & RMS

While it would expand your scope of work, with the additional clearance you'll have under the oil pan it wouldn't be too hard to replace the o-rings in your oil uptake system. Seems like you're going to run this car for a while and since it's a hot rod version, you'll want things to hold up inside t...

Re: Preparing to Replace Clutch & RMS

Now for some questions: my vehicle is '98 S70 T5 w/ single mass flywheel (according to chassis #) 1) While the transmission and axles are out, is there anything else I should check or replace at this time? Unless you have a LSD to put in, no. 2) Is there any rehab I should perform on the transmissi...

Re: Preparing to Replace Clutch & RMS

I've replaced the clutch by dropping the transmission out of the bottom and I've also swapped an engine by pulling the engine along with the transaxle out of the top. If you have an engine hoist and a stand it is six of one and half a dozen of the other in terms of time and grief. I did both by myse...

Re: Preparing to Replace Clutch & RMS

I dropped a P2 for a clutch job last fall. I used an engine bar and dropped it to remove the transmission Trick to line up...buy two long M10 bolts, offer up transmission to engine, walk it in, the threadthe two bolts into the engine. Presto...you now have an alignment jig which you can slide the tr...

Re: Preparing to Replace Clutch & RMS

Without a lift I don't see the advantage of going out the bottom but as mentioned earlier both methods are about the same level of difficulty. I recommend replacing the axle seals while you have the transmission out and replacing the gear oil is a no-brainer. If you were to pull the engine it would ...
